Dear Members and Colleagues,
On June 11th, the Swiss Healthcare Licensing Group held its annual Summer Event. This year, we tried out a new format, and organized a mini-conference, which took place in the Novartis Learning Center in Basel.
We selected as the theme “Trends in intellectual property …. Threat or opportunity for your next licensing deal?” The speakers were senior industry experts in intellectual property who gave stimulating and thought-provoking presentations on this complex and important topic.
Presentations Swiss HLG Summer Event 2014
1. Trends in IP strategy for young companies – viewed from a larger company David Deperthes – Corporate Head of Business Development at Debiopharm
2. The Unified Patent Court: Quo vadis? Matthias Stolmár – Stolmár and Partners
3. Patent system of BRIC countries – challenges and opportunities from a pharma perspective Markus Gruber and Denis Barbier – Novartis Principal Patent Attorneys
4. Q&A – Panel discussion with all speakers
We had more than 50 participants We had more than 50 participants who appreciated the depth of the presentations and the opportunity to discuss their questions directly with the experienced speakers during the panel session. Each of the presenters tackled a different trend in the protection and licensing of IP, which gave the participants a more holistic view of the IP landscape in the healthcare industries.
The apero at the end allowed the participants to continue their discussions with the presenters, and also was very effective in doing what the Swiss HLG stands for … networking amongst professionals …
On the whole, the new “mini-conference” format was well appreciated, and we expect to offer more such conferences in the future.
